just a few things i've been up to…..

So I haven't really been into blogging these days and will probably fade out my blog in the next few months or so. But if you care to follow me and my baked goods, click on the links to Facebook or Instagram.  Here is what's been happening in my kitchen this year….

Soccer themed cookies for 5 cuties that played in a tournament earlier this year.

A bunny themed birthday party.

For our own consumption, meyer lemon curd and crumbly vanilla scones.

A gluten free and dairy free clementine cake!

Re-creating animal cookies.

Missing Italy and a chocolate-hazelnut babka!

For an order - Shopkins themed birthday party. Rainbow Bite cupcake toppers made out of royal icing.

Cookie favors and the birthday girls' name in cookies!

A Twinkle Twinkle Little Star themed birthday favors and cupcakes.

Probably the coolest and non-traditional valentines…..

I "heart" NY cookie wedding favors.

Valentine's Day!!!

And a birthday cake celebrating memories - past and present.

a sweet "thank you" gift

A new client of mine recently gave birth to her third child and as a "thank you" to her doctor and staff she asked me to make some decorated sugar cookies. Because who doesn't love cookies? Excited to create such a sweet gift, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to make Humpty Dumpty again. He's just so cute!!!

The cookie package had a baby theme of course so there had to be baby bottles…..

Elephants and ducks to tie the blue and yellow theme together…..

The letter "H" for baby Henry…..

And most importantly "thank you" cookies…..

a sofia the first birthday cake

I try and avoid making fondant tiered cakes because they're really not my jam. BUT when a neighborhood friend asks me to make her daughter's first birthday cake I just couldn't say no. So after a couple of sleepless nights and an early morning, just like that, there is a cake!

I had no idea who Sofia The First was and honestly still don't. Luckily Google had many images of her and her cast mates and Amazon provided me with the plastic figurines.

Because I don't create these kind of cakes on a regular basis, I can be a little rusty. Especially with rolling out fondant!!! Please don't look too closely to the imperfections. I even attempted to do a quilting technique using a small square cookie cutter.

I used small flower-shaped fondant cutters to cut out the flowers for the top tier of the cake and to embellish the other tiers. Then I simply finished each flower off with a little royal icing in the center.

Happy
1st
Birthday
Sofia!!!

sushi rice krispie treats

THIS is sushi rice krispie treats!!! Can you handle it???

Vanilla white fondant was shaped into shrimp and dusted with edible colored powder for the Ebi…..

To create the Tamago, Sake, Maguro, & Toro, I microwaved Starbursts Fruit Chews and shaped them to mimic the actual fish & egg pieces. A little strip of black fondant finished the look of the Tamago.

For the rolls I rolled Fruit Roll-Ups inside the rice krispie treats and sour apple rope to look like asparagus. More black fondant was used for the nori.

I am a total sucker for details so it was a MUST to package them in take-away sushi containers.

emoji emoticon cookies

I just love when a client requests something that I've never made before. This special order was for an Emoji emoticon cookie for Valentine's Day treats. A cute little tag was then tied around the bagged cookie that said, "You make me smile." Don't they???

I used yellow fondant and royal icing to glue them onto the tops of the cookies.

Not much royal icing was used to decorate the cookies but I did need a little black icing for the eyes and happy smile.

Lastly, using a q-tip and pink lustre dust, I applied the blush.
